Since childhood I have been a nature lover, a writer and a photographer. When I roamed the prairie in northern Oklahoma I felt the need to describe my adventures in poems, diaries and short stories. But sometimes words failed, and I tried to expand my vision through photos taken with a Kodak Instamatic. Those early black and white pictures help preserve memories of my youth. I can revisit those special places and people anytime. That is the primary reason I love photography – to capture the memories!

Another motivator is to inspire interest in beliefs and causes that stir my soul. Nature is a soul-nourishing passion for me. I find God in His magnificent creation. When the world becomes wearisome Psalm 23 answers: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul.” But nature can also be harsh. We can learn from its difficult realities and apply the life lessons to our human world.

Job may have said it best: “But ask the animals, and they will teach you. Ask the birds of the sky, and they will tell you. Speak to the earth, and it will instruct you. Let the fish in the sea speak to you.” I hope these photographs will nourish your soul!
